Advance your skills with a General Practitioner Advanced Certificate
The GPAdvCert is developed for veterinary professionals who wish to advance their knowledge and practical skills, progress their academic qualifications and gain recognition in their field.
Once successfully obtained the certificate (GPAdvCert), the student will not only have acquired an extraordinary degree, but also valuable additional skills and the necessary confidence to carry out new techniques in their professional life, increasing the value and quality of their practice clinical respect to most veterinarians.
How to achieve an ISVPS GPAdvCert
1. Complete the course
The first step to achieving the GPAdvCert is to complete the modular training programme with our accredited training provider, Improve Veterinary Education.
During the course we recommend you:
Complete the pre and post module questions (whilst not compulsory they are an important part of your exam preparation)
Undertake further reading around the course syllabus
2. Pass the assessments
Please note, from 1st January 2023 our assessments have changed to further focus on assessing clinical experience of vets working in general practice.
For the GPAdvCert the assessments are:
Presentation of 50 cases to assess breadth of clinical experience
Completion of 90-minute online applied knowledge examination (OAKE) to assesses application of clinical knowledge.
Completion of a 90-minute case-based scenario (CBS) exam, focusing on the management of one in-depth clinical case
A case report; written assessment about one clinical case you have managed

3. Celebrate your success!
On successful completion of your assessments, you will be awarded the GPAdvCert with a personalised certificate and your name will be included in the ISVPS register of General Practitioner Advanced Certificate holders.<
